Community English Programs

The International Center's community-based ESOL programs uniquely address learner needs & accommodate all levels & backgrounds. For many learners, our programs offer a first step toward achieving their English goals & feeling more engaged in the city.
  • We partner with neighborhood-based organizations including public schools, community centers, affordable housing communities, churches, consulates & neighborhood clinics to provide individualized programming to meet each community's unique needs.
  • The location of the programs—in the local community—is a familiar, safe space for learners.
  • Our approach offers flexible enrollment to include learners who may not have access to more traditional ESOL classes.
  • The informal conversational structure & learner-centered approach to ESOL instruction & practice enable students of all proficiency levels & educational backgrounds to feel welcomed & find success. 
  • Through adaptive program models including small conversation groups & multi-level ESOL classes, students can gain the confidence & English communication skills required to pursue continuing education, job training, U.S. citizenship, or other opportunities that will lead them to self-sufficiency in New York.
